“Changing faces with a smile.” (This will make you smile)

For years, I’ve looked at those cleft palate ads with a mix of brief empathy, horror…and feeling ineffectual. “I don’t have any money.” Now, watching this, I’m pushed further than sympathy or shock into joy and gratitude…watching the eyes of this little girl shine with delight, both before and after (after, without the help of her doll).  ~ ed.

> Interview with a cleft palate surgeon. Inspiring.

> With deep bow to Reddit for bringing this to prominent attention!

Comments (just a few of the first out of the thousands):

This is one of the most uplifting things I’ve ever seen.

love it when the camera screen flips over and her jaw literally drops!

Haha she’s so beautiful (before and after). You guys did such an incredibly job with the surgery and for only 24 hours post op it already looks great 🙂 Healing nicely. Thank you for such a heart warming video.

I just donated $120, what i can spare, but is worth much more them than it does to me. We live in a culture with the most messed up priorities. Stepping over each other to be successful when we should be using that success to help those less fortunate.

Dentist here. Oral surgeons are total rockstars, and as you can see correcting cleft lips and palates can make such a huge difference in a kid’s life. It’s a great profession to get into.

If that made you smile please donate…

An amazing little girl who had her cleft lip surgery.People ask me why I volunteer overseas so much.. It takes my eyes off me and allows me to remember what life is all about. When we use what we have been given (whatever that might be) to make a positive change for our world, thats when life make sense…. In a time when the world seems to be imploding with greed, there are certain things that will always remain invaluable..like the smile on this girls face when she realises her life will be changed forever. Her lip is still swollen and painful as she is only 24 hours post surgery but the joy in her eyes is unmistakable and makes my heart laugh without measure. I hope it brings the same to you.
