Some days, you just toss and turn over.


Not regret exactly. Je ne regrette rien. I regret nothing.

One school of thought says, “If you get to the end without regrets, you haven’t really lived.” The other says, “Regret nothing…it’s all part of the path.” I think I’m somewhere in between, still trying to figure it out. But when I have a night where I lay in bed wishing I had done things differently, said something else, said a little less…I remember Emerson:

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

And then I roll over and go to sleep. (‘Cause a girl needs her sleep if she’s going to be serene yet spirited in the morning!)

    Trungpa Rinpoche said regret was very important. Vital. Key, so that you or I don't do the same thing all over again. He said feel it, really feel it…for three seconds. Then move one, let it go.
