Hey Round Peg in a Square Hole,

Have you ever been called a dreamer? Or a fool? (In the cynic’s dictionary they’re synonyms.) And are you often tagged as a misfit, a loner, a crazy-idea junkie, a weirdo, a misunderstood fictional character, or, simply put, just nuts?

Welcome to Pale Earth then. It’s your job to make it blush with imagination.

If you can’t sleep at night because you’re busy designing the day, and if you sacrifice “Normality” on the altar of Creativity, read on. You might be nuts, but you’re not alone.

“Entrepreneurship is the last refuge of the trouble making individual.”

~ Natalie Clifford Barney

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”  ~ Martin Luther King

“I do not believe a man can ever leave his business. He ought to think of it by day and dream of it by night.” ~ Henry Ford

“If you’re not living life on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.” ~ Anonymous

“Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell ‘em, ‘Certainly, I can!’ Then get busy and find out how to do it.”  ~ Theodore Roosevelt

“An entrepreneur tends to bite off a little more than he can chew hoping he’ll quickly learn how to chew it.”  ~ Roy Ash

“Cherish your visions; cherish your ideals; cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts, for out of them will grow all delightful conditions, all heavenly environment; of these, if you but remain true to them, your world will at last be built.” ~ James Allen

“If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”

~ Jim Rohn

“The best way to predict the future is to create it.”  ~ Peter Drucker

“Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”

Winston Churchill

“Live out of your imagination instead of out of your memory.” ~ Fortune Cookie

“Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure.” ~ Napoleon Hill

“The best use of life is to spend it on something that outlasts it.” ~ William James

“Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.” ~ Anonymous

“There is only one success: to be able to spend your life in your own way.” ~ Christopher Morley

“Fall seven times, stand up eight.” ~ Japanese Proverb

“The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” ~ Vidal Sassoon

“Vision without action is a daydream. Action without vision is a nightmare.”

~ Japanese Proverb

“A ship in harbor is safe. But that’s not what ships are built for.” ~ William Shedd

“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein.” ~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

“Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” ~ Confucius

“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there will ever be to know and understand.” ~ Albert Einstein

Speaking of which, I have an idea. From now on, instead of saying “hey” to dreamers, greet them with a bow and show them the Steve Jobs kind of faith you also need. They’ll grow wings and, who knows, maybe some day, they might just carry you home.

“Stay hungry, stay foolish.”

  9. I love this story about Henry Ford — he had been criticized by a newspaper, called an ignorant man. He brought a case against the paper, and in court the defense lawyer began asking him questions on science and history. At one point Henry Ford turned to the judge and said, "In my office I have a panel of buttons, and I can press any button and someone will come running to answer any of these questions. So am I ignorant?"

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
    — Mark Twain
