1 Woman, 1 Minute, 100 Years of “Beauty.” {Video}

This is incredible! Watch as this model is transformed by the styles of each decade from 1910 to now.

Sure, she’s got lots of stylists to help her, but you know what’s not happening? Nothing is changing what her mama gave her. Is she just lucky? Is she just the magical kind of beauty that looks good in every stylized way from every decade? I don’t think so. To me, it just highlights how arbitrary and artificial what features we call beautiful.

Being stylish is really about a performance. It’s showing off how well you can conform to the ideals and standards of your time. This is often mistaken for beauty, but these two concepts could not be more different. Style is the thing that’s changing in this clip, beauty is her, the thing that isn’t changing.

We are all her. Our genuine selves cannot fail to be beautiful. The rest is just a popularity contest.
