*Author’s Note: Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, is one of the oldest sciences on the planet and considered a relative of astronomy. It is an important and valuable part of the ancient Vedic texts. This complex, logic-based, and also intuitive science, has survived thousands of years in India’s Vedic tradition and is still considered a highly valuable tool of guidance and life insight. It is not a religion, but rather a philosophical understanding of human and cosmic existence. In Sanskrit, Jyoti means light. Essentially, the study of jyotish is the study of light and how we interact with the cosmic light—within us and within the cosmos. Vedic astrology, or the sidereal approach to astrology, casts charts differently than Western, or Tropical astrology. The meanings, implications, and purpose of jyotish is therefore different, as are the details used for prediction and the indications given below.

Horoscopes for the Waxing Moon Cycle {January 20th to February 2nd}

Mercury and Jupiter are both in retrograde, inviting us to make mental returns in order for future expansion. Work directly with the mental body, your imaginary realms, and re-trace your steps intentionally right now.

Attend to clutter—mental and otherwise. Let this clarity provide space for expansion as the Moon waxes. Sun and Mercury’s conjunction in Capricorn will help you with this. Get precise and focused, but don’t lose sight of the big picture, or the bigger goal.

Aries: Let the gains in. Do you have a container large enough to hold all the goods? Attend to your heart chakra and let this be the holding tank for all the goodness you are amassing. What is standing in your way still? What is blocking you from fully expanding your visions, your dreams, and stepping into your goals? Attend to these pieces and use the clarity for getting tenacious about what you want. It will require a different response than in the past, so be mindful of your action steps. Do things differently and get different results. Think bigger and life gets bigger!

Taurus: Relationships are proving to be your biggest teacher right now. They also require your extra effort and attention. Speak clearly and effectively and let your words be like medicine for yourself and others. When you speak authentically, people notice. Career is getting a passionate surge of energy right now. Channel this energy into innovative and creative endeavors that you can share on a larger scale. Work differently, think differently, and create from a different place for maximum gains.

Gemini: Find new ways of nourishing yourself. What feeds you? Better question, what used to feed you? It will be helpful to recall how you used to be fed by life, by your younger spirit. Let some of the carefree, child like sensibilities of your early childhood inspire you right now. Make space diligently for your creativity, as this will ignite and inspire your inner child. Your shadows are keeping your heart heavy and burdened, but honoring them will help let in a bit more light. What can your inner child tell you about what you really need for safety, security and freedom?

Cancer: You are still expanding in reverse. Does it feel like constant déjà vu? Now that Mercury is retrograde with Sun in your seventh house, expect some old relationships to re-visit you. This time, you will see them differently, and more critically. Be gentle even as you look at what no longer serves you in these connections. Passion comes from your depths, from shadows, and the past, which intensifies your longings and desires. For you, it is an important time to be addressing what needs to be released in order for you to step into a very new future. You can learn a lot from letting go. Let that be your guru right now.

Leo: Right now you are passionate about being passionate. Passionate about your work, being of service and changing lives. The way to maximize your efforts and to really be a guiding light and resource for others is by healing yourself. Don’t get lost in the externalized giving process without first doing your inner work. Take some of your passion and put it back into yourself. Look at your darkness, your shadows, your bad habits. Be willing to look at your own illusions and transform them into awareness. The best part about this is that you will have more of an offering to serve and share with others.

Virgo: Your creativity and passion are located in your belly. Feeding your gut properly will help you feed the fire of life within you as well. Nourishment metaphors abound right now as you cut out and release relationships that no longer serve you. You must trust that you are making room for much more love and sacred connection as a result of all this release and re-structuring. The best use of your time and efforts right now is working with your hands, creativity, communication and writing. It will likely feel burdensome and tiresome, but this is taking you somewhere powerful. Let your emotional body wisdom guide you.

Libra: Your heart is very determined right now. It’s adamant about loving and being in relationships. Passions are high, but the critic is even stronger. It is a wonderful time to be addressing your judgement and mental body illusions. What is keeping you from the deep nourishment you so deeply long for? If you can make more space for your creativity, your imagination, your child-like senses, you will increase your passion for life. This passion is the missing link with all areas of your life. It will feed you. Don’t let the critic keep you from this inner, creative magic.

Scorpio: As Cat Stephens sings about, be the “hard headed woman” and keep your focus, tenacity and steadfast work ethic in tact. Passion and creativity are smoldering, but keep adding kindling to the flames to feed the fire slowly. Get clear, focused and aligned, and plot your action steps accordingly. The strength that you are building will ultimately become a bonfire. Trust the process and your efforts. Move your passion from second chakra into your heart and see how this effects your creative flow.

Sagittarius: It may seem like you are feeling around for a light switch right now, looking for the right button. Your career is requesting your attention and intention, but it needs a different approach right now. You can not do things the way you’ve done them in the past and expect different results. Right now, innovation is crucial. Maximize creativity and passion by letting go of your agenda and your “should’s”. Clear your desk and your mind. Spend time meditating and on retreat. The space you create within will lead to a greater offering in the long run.

Capricorn: Your sharp mind is sharpening. Your goals and agendas are getting edgier and more clear. You are finding this clarity by refining your lists and desires, by re-addressing your goals and visions. Old relationships return to give you a boost and now you have an opportunity to create greater balance with them. Build momentum by joining forces. Gather your group, your tribe, and passionately speak your mind. The message may be an old one, a recycled one, but people will take notice as if it’s new.

Aquarius: Passionate innovation is key right now. Unleash your entrepreneurial spirit and expand your vision of what is possible. Flap your wings and stretch them out. Expansion is coming by clearing out the old, hidden parts of yourself and bringing them to light. Face your fears and learn from them. Your willingness to transform these fears will set you free. Right now, your road to success requires that you work backwards- from the big and bold passion that is oozing out of you—to the practical steps that must be attended to one at a time.

Pisces: It’s hard to count your gains when you are busy counting your losses. There is so much letting go and releasing right now, so much re-structuring and change. It is hard to find your steady footing in this state. Working with the emotions that emerge from the letting go process will be profoundly and deeply transforming. This sadness, grief and heaviness is coming from your emotional body wisdom and it has a lot to share with you. This is new sadness and also re-igniting the old as well. The good news is, you get to heal past and present if you are willing to face it right now.
