We’ve all heard the saying
You attract more bees with honey,
But I’m tired of heartbreak’s sting.

How do I attract the butterflies?
The ones that grow,
And soar toward

You’re the first
I’ve been with
Where I feel myself
Growing into
Who I’m supposed to be

Instead of changing
Into someone who just
Pleases you
You’re sunshine
To the blooming
Of my soul.

Where do I find the butterflies?

I tired of the terrestrial form, so many legs, grasping this way and that, forever hungry
Is this all there is?
A voiceless echo whispered, “No.”
Desperation driving me inward, descending into darkness, blind
Excavating through the identities, the beliefs and the patterns that stitched this form together
Slowly unraveling, inch by inch,
Toward my own demise
Light breaks through, shining upon wet wings
Fragile, sensitive
No longer comfortable on the ground
Pulled upward, floating effortlessly, expanding into the joy of flight
Breathing in life through porous wings
Seeking the safety of a garden where I can land, breathe, be

The butterflies you seek are not on the ground
Do not be fooled by painted wings that cannot fly
We are soaring above, searching for those who have excavated their lives into beautiful gardens
Where love grows, compassion feeds, honesty prunes, and vulnerability plants seeds of possibilities for ever-expanding growth
We are looking for those who fly to collide with us
No longer bound by the tendrils of human grasping
Resting in the beauty of the lives we have created
Until flight calls again to experience this life from a different vantage point.
