The global pandemic completely changed our routine. That also applies to your workout routine.
Yet, it is still not over and the question still remains if the world we know will ever be back. You know how you felt the entire time – anxious, tense, struggling with the feeling of sadness, unease, and uncertainty. In these moments, who was thinking about exercising?
If you succeeded in the mission to struggle with a sedentary lifestyle and keep disciplined – well done. Most of us had a hard time remaining disciplined, keeping a steady diet, healthy sleep schedule, and exercising regularly. A siren call of your couch, a fridge full of treats (or threats), and Netflix… you had no chance actually.
But don’t worry, since the summer is postponed for a bit you don’t need to work on your summer body. Let’s change this philosophy a bit – you will work on your all year long body. Throughout this complicated period, your body had overcome some serious obstacles. You carried all that weight on your back, all these worries on your heart.
It is time to get up and do something nice for your body. Your mind is strong, you are getting from this situation also stronger than ever…so your body needs to match your new attitude.
Benefits of regular exercising
Most people often think that people are exercising to maintain their amazon physique. That is not entirely true. Sure, a great look comes as an award for all that sweat in the gym but the story goes a bit deeper than that.
Regular exercise improves your heart rate, especially intensive cardio training. You will be more durable and ready to chase your dreams.
The next important thing is weight lifting. We are not talking about Olympic weight lifting but exercises like deadlifts and squats.
It might sound scary for a rookie but it can do wonders for your posture, muscle joints, bone structure, and density and of course – it can help you burn a few calories on your way. Of course, there are many activities to choose from if you are not a huge fan of exercising.
Yoga or dance classes can do a trick also. It is up to you to find a program that you can stick to. Also, a healthy diet will enhance your efforts to get fit and healthy.
Remember that greens and proteins are your little helpers, but enjoying sweets once a month won’t hurt either. Everything for your wellbeing and health.
Balance is everything! If you are not sure where to begin, perhaps maybe the easier way to start is to consult a personal trainer. Then you will know where to start and which type of exercise works the best for you. If depends, of course, of your age, weight, and goals.
Setting up a home gym?
Remember that this one requires some serious discipline. If you are ready to do that, then this option could be great for you. If you have an extra space that is simply calling you for a remodel, you can turn it to your fitness shrine.
Some items you will definitely need for your home gym – a large mirror to make sure you are doing all the exercises properly. Avoid taking selfies, this is not a vanity mirror. It will see some serious things – sweat and tears. Let’s skip the blood part.
Don’t forget to soundproof your room. Your neighbors will probably complain after a few of your seances so make sure to soundproof a door, walls and use a soundproof mat on the floor.
When you put your weights down or when you jump the rope – it will ease the impact and vibration.
For cardio training, you can find a stationary bike, elliptical trainer, or a jump rope. Start at a slower pace and then push your limits. It is the right way to avoid muscle sores that will make you give up in seconds. These machines are not expensive and you can find some used equipment to start with.
A set of dumbells is also welcome. But make sure that someone is around you to help you with some bigger weights, to avoid injury.
You can also install a screen where you can play workout videos and follow a workout routine for yoga or Insanity training.
You will save money on the gym membership and transportation there, for example, you will feel free to explore which exercises work best for you without judgemental looks from more experienced gym-goers. And then when you build confidence (and mass) you can maybe consider joining group training.
Crossfit is always a popular option but in these times, remember to keep your distance.
Getting from lockdown in style
And remember – you have all time of the world. Forget about summer body that is beach ready kind of panic and find happiness in exercising. Take care of your health and people around you will notice that special glow you have.
Let this lockdown inspire you to take good care of yourself and be an inspiration for others. Maybe soon your friends will join you at your home gym.
