The Benefits of Creativity

There are soo many benefits to creativity, studies show that creativity reduces stress and anxiety, boosts your self-esteem.

Since I was very young I loved making art, I enjoyed the process, the exploration and making something I thought was cool or beautiful… 40 years ago I really could not tell you the exact reason I kept coming back to art…

In the last 10 years my yoga, art and spiritual practice have aligned and are starting to inform each other. And I am also starting to see similarities.

Making art can give you similar benefits to meditation. Creativity can help you find your flow- the state where your so absorbed in an activity that you forget all your worries! We reach that flow state when we surrender our whole self to a task. Making art in this state we lose sense of time… Not only are we probably doing our best work, but according to psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi who wrote the book “FLOW” happiness levels can be shifted by introducing flow.

Making art can be a tool to making us happier!

Making art boosts your self-esteem and dopamine levels. Dopamine is the hormone that makes you feel good!

Every time I finish a work I feel satisfaction and achievement. For me personally having the perseverance to practice regularly and improve over time is important. It feels so satisfying to keep coming back to my creativity because I know how easy it is to prioritise other things.

Being creative can help to become a better problem solver in all areas of your life and work. Creativity helps you see things differently and cope better with uncertainty.

Of course I am biased that art is good for you, but I hope that you will be a little more inspired to get creative! Enjoy!
