This is My Love Story.

{*Did you know you can write on Elephant? Here’s how—big changes: How to Write & Make Money or at least Be of Benefit on Elephant. ~ Waylon}

~

If I wrote a love story, it would sound like a 90s rock song.

It would be full of grit and rebellion. It would be messy, catchy, and somewhat annoying. It would take us to places we probably shouldn’t go.

But we’d go anyway.

The words would be mildly self-deprecating, and another necessary ingredient—c’mon, you didn’t think I’d forget—the chorus would have some well-placed screams and f*ck yeahs.

But it would be real. Vulnerable. Full of the things that we usually think, but are too scared to say.

It would be all twists and turns—like snaking, switch-back mountain roads.

It would be dirt under your nails, ripped jeans, the high-noon sun on your skin. Wide open. Alive.

Every chapter would drip with curiosity. Regretful choices and hurt and hope and learning. So much learning. Tumbling into your lungs. Your breath stinging with tears.

Honesty.

All of it crashing down and back into yourself. Your body. Your desires. Your independence. Your voice.

You’d spend time alone and stop falling into fictional fantasies. Then, you’d actually be ready to meet someone real.

It would lead to wisdom.

To choosing something that feels both effortless and challenging.

You would not worry about being perfect.

You would feel fuller than ever, but you’d never lose that drive for adventure, depth, and joy. You’d keep reaching for fresh growth with the rise of every spring.

You would not feel stagnant. You’d feel seen. Secure.

Yes, you would feel so held but still loud, red lipstick. Soft and wild, you know what I mean?

That is what you are to me.

You are my love story. You are wonderful, caring, and so much fun.

You meet me at the edges, never afraid to scream the chorus together, looking like complete and utter fools.

I’m glad I met you when I did. I would have never been ready before.

Now we get to take those twists and turns, those snaking mountain switch back roads.

Together.

And that is the best f*cking part.
