Female sexuality, objectified, often lacks a sense of awareness or humor. Not sure if it’s ridiculous? Flip it.

Album:

Men-Ups!

A restructuring of the ways in which males are presented in popular media, applying traditional pinup poses that are reserved for the female form, while still presenting the models in ‘masculine’ clothing.

Society defines the sexes as being inherently born with exclusive traits that are actually imposed by the society itself. From things as small as colour, attire, and even posing, the sexes are forced into accepting ideals that are unborn.

Men-Ups! is a project aimed at reversing the stereotypes created by society, begging the questions; why is it sexual for a female to pose one way, and not sexual for a male? Why is it considered more comical or unsettling for males to act the more socially defined feminine?

  1. Georgie says:

    And she looks fantastic!

  2. Brandon says:

The problem with this is, its entirely possible for men to pose in what is considered feminine poses AND be masculine and not look ridiculous…lol This clearly intends to make them look ridiculous.

  3. Judy says:

Where's the hipster boy milking the cow? I hear that one rocks! ;)

  4. OOLie says:

I thnkthe idea is for them to look ridiculous. If they were women in the exact same poses some people woudl say they were sexy. I say they are still ridiculous.

  5. JDP says:

Hi Brandon, they look ridiculous because the poses themselves are unnatural – in real life we don't constantly elongate our torsos, arch our backs, point our toes and stick out our butts. But most female models are photographed doing just that – because it's about accentuating female body parts, thus turning them into objects you can bend into unnatural shapes rather than accepting women as real human beings.

but then, what's the point of art? i'm a straight white female and i enjoy the classic war-era pin-ups.

i even like these ones – they're silly, but it's cute.

now, if they were to have the men posing as TODAY'S "not suitable for pin up" girls, they'd have an article.

  6. lisa says:

just shows how ridiculous women look trying to be sexy to please men…..boring. thanks for this.

  7. Eve says:

And male modelling shots accentuate their shoulders, very prominent jaw and usually absurd muscles and washboard abs, so what. I feel that this is a problem with modelling in general rather than sexism.

  8. Ashley says:

I think women look pretty ridiculousin pin-up pics too! I couldn't possibly love this more without imploding. thank you!!!!

  9. Tabun says:

    Those are so much fun!

  10. Thinking says:

The only thing is… those men still have clothes on! Everthing isn't micro-nized down to barely -there. Do that, then you have some comparison. And make sure it's super tight around there man-hood so we can tell what they're packing!! (Tongue-in-cheek, but I believe I have a point.)

  11. MrsC says:

    Exactly my thought, Thinking!

  12. Allison says:

I think this would have worked better with more modern photos of sexy women. I think a lot of women, including myself, find pin-up fun, enjoyable, and empowering since it tends to embrace a more whimsical side of femininity and any body type can be a pin up. I see the point, just wish it had been demonstrated with a different genre of photography.

  13. Andy says:

Male sexuality is naturally dominant, the feminine is naturally more submissive. This is not learned, its ancient. It's a mistake to conclude that one is more powerful or better than the other, its not. It's also ok to mix it up, the rule is not universal. It's not ok to shame women who embrace the power of their own submissive sexuality, its also ok for men to embrace their own natural sexual dominance in a controlled way.
