This is old news—but as it’s on the home page of, and as what Martha talks about, below, is still going on…well, unfortunately, it’s not old news.

I made it through about three minutes, hand over open mouth, shocked, nearly crying, before I clicked off.

Buddhism holds that there’s three root neuroses, or poisons: aggression, attachment and ignorance. After seeing what I could of this video, ignorance seems to me to be the worst of the three.

An amazing video.

“I used to wear real fur,” says Martha Stewart in her new video for PETA, “but, like many others, I had a change of heart when I learned what actually happens to the animals.” Her brief fur-trade exposé, filmed on the set of her TV talk show, shows how animals are trapped, strangled, and electrocuted for their pelts.

Martha’s public turnaround on fur began this spring, when she responded from jail to a letter from PETA Vice President Dan Mathews, explaining that the fur she famously wore the day of her sentencing was fake. Martha credits her vegetarian daughter, Alexis, who costars in her new show, The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, with making her aware of animal issues.

Martha’s online testimony is designed to be e-mailed to family or friends who may still wear fur, as well as to celebrities, stylists, fashion editors, and other Martha Stewart fans. “So much violence in the world seems beyond our control,” says Martha, “but this is one cruelty we can stop by being informed consumers.”

The insanity of human beings never ceases to amaze me. However, it os good to see Martha Stewart has publicised this incredible cruelty …shame on the Canadian government for allowing baby seals to once again be butchered.

  2. […] or bear or whatever, you’re gonna hafta die ’cause I like the feel of your hide. Fur is horrifically mean, and entirely unnecessary (my fabulous fashion designer friend, Brit Lisa Mills, has a fake […]

  3. Andrew Armiger says:

Do not wear any type of fur at all. Even fake (or, yes, vintage) fur visually is a visible vote in favor of society's acceptance of the fur industry.

  4. I think it’s astounding that Martha Stewart made such an awesome bounce back after going to the penitentiary. thought it would have ended her career, but not a chance!
