President Obama on Republican accusations of appeasement: ‘Ask Osama bin Laden.’

Woo! Damn. This is the kick-ass President Obama liberals pine for and Republicans fear.

QUESTION: Republican candidates have taken aim at your approach to foreign policy, particularly in the Middle East and Israel, and accused you of “appeasement,” and I wanted to get your reaction to that.

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Ask Osama bin Laden and the 22 out of 30 top al Qaeda leaders who have been taken off the field whether I engage in appeasement—or whoever’s left out there, ask them about that.

One of fave Reddit comments re “what else has Obama done?”

Healthcare reform? Credit card reform? Withdrawal from Iraq? Consumer protection agency? Stimulus package? fair pay act? Student loan reform? Food safety act? Revitalized the image of America in the foreign world (maybe not to pre-Bush levels, but it was a vast improvement)? 9/11 first responder healthcare? SCHIP expansion? Repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell?

Killing Osama was just the only thing that even his opponents couldn’t criticize. It was hardly his greatest success, though.

    ‘Fraid this doesn’t impress me.

Reps and Dems are always arguing about who’s the best globocop. Not a peep out of either side about keeping all American troops inside of America, or about dismantling the military-industrial complex.

If you want an empire and you’re a Democrat, Pres. Obama’s smooth response should bring a smile. If you want an empire and you’re a Republican, you have to concede this round to the Dems. But if you are anti-war, you don’t really care about which of the imperial parties wins debating points. It’s just another family spat between Twiddledee and Twiddledum.

Obama the warmonger isn't the same "bring our troops home" guy he was before being elected.

Anti-war doesn't equal peace. Just ask the Tibetans. True strength is what Shambhala Buddhists call the "tiger" dignity or principle—the quality of "meek"—modesty borne of gentleness, a lack of need to impress. I think President Obama displays that, here. ~ Waylon

    He's no warmonger, friend.

Joe Allegretti Many have questioned whether we should be rejoicing about how many enemies he's "taken out." Worth considering.

Edward Kasimir I'm surprised that the elephant journal celebrates this. Hearing him talking about killing people doesn't bring me pleasure.

Nicole Williams Im sick of elephant journal-Im unfriending…

elephantjournal.com Nicole, this is a site about dialogue, not agreeing. If you want to agree, find a news site that always agrees with you. If you want to laugh, cry, be challenged, troubled, learn, argue respectfully…you're family. We don't do clique.

Joe, we were among the sites to lead the charge on that line of questioning. A simple search on our site would show dozens of amazing articles from that time questioning our celebrating such. I don't think we're doing that here and I don't think President Obama is doing that here.

Edward, we're not celebrating death. We're celebrating President Obama calling BS when he sees it, instead of trying to get along with a GOParty that is determined to help the 1% and little else. ~ Waylon

ML: Excellent! I suspected clique a while back. I was wrong.

EleJ: True strength is… modesty borne of gentleness, a lack of need to impress. I think President Obama displays that, here.

ML: Very nice. I actually caught my breath just a bit when I read that line. And yes, Prez Obama displays it. But in the context of defending warmongering, as Meatpie points out.

EleJ: We're celebrating President Obama calling BS when he sees it, instead of trying to get along with a GOParty that is determined to help the 1%.

ML: In the thick of the fray, Reps and Dems might look different. Where I stand, the only real difference is in style. Policy’s the same. Bombs and bailouts. And millions incarcerated for non-aggressive “crimes.” Dems and Reps ignore all that and only quibble over little stuff.

    This is sad.
A blog that promotes small organic farms is promoting the food safety bill that puts so many restrictions on small to medium sized farms that they cannot afford to grow, or in some cases even operate, just because Obama was involved, has no business being in the political debate.
That bill crushes the very farms you support.

Did you know that the provision in the recently passed “indefinite Detention” bill that allows for U.S. citizens to be arrested on U.S. soil without charge and held indefinitely came at Obama’s insistence?
Obama is in the pocket of the corporations.

The health care bill helps drug companies and insurance companies, not the patients or the doctors. It is time to let go of Obama and wake up. He is the same as the rest of them, and no amount of tought guy posturing will change that.
Please do some study, these are facts, not opinions. It doesn’t matter who we elect until we know what the problem is.
Try watching the G Edward Griffin interview with Norman Dodds for starters. You must look deeply and be willing to let go of ideology.

And calling Obama Meek is a sad perversion of Dharma for childish ends.

I'm more concerned about whether he intervened to block sale of the morning after pill to those who need it.
