Human Rights Violations Around the World, in One Map.

Screen Shot 2015-02-06 at 12.41.01 PM

When we think of human rights violations, what comes to mind?

In recent news we’ve heard about Russia’s horrible treatment of LGBTQ community. We know that freedom of speech is heavily restricted in a number of countries, North Korea, Iran, etc.

But have a look at this infographic below, and you’ll find no country has a perfect record. The nations are color coded by region, but click on any one of them and a list will pop up, written by Human Rights Watch about each country’s track record with various human rights issues.

We in the U.S. enjoy a lot of rights and freedoms, but even we’re not coming out of this with a clean bill of health. Human Rights Watch expressed concern over the treatment of racial minorities by law enforcement and “racial disparities” in our justice system.

Oh, and then there’s the whole torture thing…

The infographic was found on the Telegraph and the Human Rights Watch 25 page report can be found here, and individual country chapters here.

There are no knights in shining armor here, though there are certainly some countries it would seem easier to live in than others. Take a look for yourself:
