The trick is to know
That these battles are everlasting,
The war is ongoing,
The struggle is ever-present
And arduous
And exasperating.
To know that you not only
Carry more armor and ammunition
Than you once thought,
But also possess so much more strength
Than you ever imagined.
To think positively,
Believe wholeheartedly,
And love vulnerably,
Despite the cruel,
Otherwise hardening twists
And startling, unforeseen turns
Down the road.
And to know
It is not magic or mystery
That you have prevailed
Through adversity,
And heartache,
And unspeakable agony.
To know
It is,
And has always been,
Just you,
At the end of the day
When the sun sets,
And the last of the light surrenders
To the boundless darkness,
Choosing life.
The trick is
To know to
Never
Stop fighting.
