The Universe is Calling…You gonna Get That?

It’s the whispers in your soul.

Or the message that you see again and again.

Maybe it’s the email or text that comes from out of nowhere.

When the Universe has a message for you, She will find a way to get your attention.

But to hear this message, we must be still and quiet, listening to the deepest parts of ourselves.

And then we must follow Her lead—for who are we to argue with the Universe?

“The Universe is saying: Allow me to flow through you unrestricted, and you will see the greatest magic you have ever seen.” ~ Klaus Joehle

This is where I confront my shame.

I have a history of arguing with almost everyone, including the Universe. I usually believe that I am right, and I am very willing to share my “rightness” with anyone.

I struggle with meditation; with being still.

I am still learning to think before I speak, to “taste my tongue” before I speak the words. I let my mind fill with “yeah, but,” and “what if” to the point that I can hear little else.

I am trying to be more present, but I find myself continually multitasking (present moment included). At least five times each day I find myself frustrated with who I am, with how I respond, or with whatever I am struggling with in the moment.

But, the Universe is persistent.

Today, She has shown me unbelievable beauty: clouds with unlimited colors, the kindness of other humans, and the power of community. The words of this article were whispered, and then shouted, just in case I decided to ignore what was being shared with me.

These are small things. Clouds. Articles. Soul whispering.

But, the big stuff: that is another thing entirely.

When the Universe is telling us to change careers, travel, or leave a relationship no longer meeting our needs—that’s when sh*t gets real.

We ask for so much validation, but the Universe isn’t really down with that.

Once we have started to awaken to our true purpose, we realize that most of the world is in a completely different place, not focused on us. And we want or need, some little sign that says, “Yes, this is the right thing for you. Stay the course.”

“The universe took its time on you
Crafted you to offer the world
Something different from everyone else
When you doubt
How you were created
You doubt an energy greater than us both
—irreplaceable” ~ Rupi Kaur

I have recently changed careers, which makes absolutely no sense to anyone I meet (and sometimes it makes very little sense to me). I haven’t figured out a way to share my “why” with new people in a way that makes sense to them. So, it would be great to have some validation—a big thumbs up for my courage—in making a change that seemed like the right thing at the time, but can feel like a huge mistake on any given day.

But, that’s not how the Universe rolls. Her validation often comes in whispers, if you are brave enough to listen.

Yeah, I’m with you. That totally sucks. But, it’s not about being easy, happy, or making more money. Answering that call is about being your best self—about me being my best self—and acknowledging that maybe we weren’t all that and a bag of chips, even though we thought we were.

It’s time to listen. The Universe is knocking.

She has been out there, knocking for some time.

It’s time for you to answer the door.

“There is a candle in your heart, ready to be kindled.
There is a void in your soul, ready to be filled.
You feel it, don’t you?” ~ Mawlana Jalal-al-Din Rumi

Once again, you've written about a condition I share. I've let the universe go to voicemail way too many times. Thumbs up for your courage!

I read and reread your article. It is not only timely but it speaks to the heart and soul. You are brave. You are honest. Bless you and your journey.

Love your article. You hit a nerve with this one. I am retiring this year and am starting an Adventure travel business. I listened! I am excited and nervous at the same time.
