President Obama: there are two kinds of Societies. Which do you want to Live in?

Update: President Obama, in Halifax, in Canada.

“There were times where I felt as if the polarization we’re seeing, not just in the United States but in a lot of democracies around the world, has taken a dangerous turn. But what I’ve continued to insist on is that we have more in common than what separates us.”

He said there are two competing narratives about how societies organize themselves, the oldest of which is a tribal system in which “might makes right” and racial differences are viewed with suspicion and fear.

While this system inevitably leads to conflict, the more recent narrative preaches inclusiveness, caring for the weak and respect for women and those with different sexual orientations.

“The danger for Canada, for the United States and Western Europe is: how do you strengthen that second story?” he said. “If a nation is built around an idea of ‘us and them’ and it’s a zero-sum game based on power and ethnicity … sooner or later there’s a war.” Read the rest, here.

President Obama cautions against “Woke” Culture. [Full Video]

Obama calls out “Woke” “Cancel” Culture. “That’s not Activism. That’s not bringing about change.”

We’re a fragile, defensive, don’t “shame” me society.

And yet we’re a self-righteous, judgemental, toxic, aggressive society—on social media. In person, it’s a bit more humble, sometimes.

President Obama brought his heart, and mind, and experience to this woketivism:

“This idea of purity, and you’re never compromised, and you’re always politically woke and all that stuff, you should get over that quickly,” President Obama said.

“The world is messy. There are ambiguities. People who do really good stuff have flaws.”

“There is this sense sometimes of, ‘The way of me making change is to be as judgemental as possible about other people.’ And that’s enough.”

“Like if I tweet or hashtag about how you didn’t do something right or used the wrong verb, then I can sit back and feel pretty good about myself. ‘Cause, ‘Man, you see how woke I was? I called you out’.”

Finally, an adult in the “social media” room: [video begins at the moment, but I’ve included the full video for some depth that other corporate media shouts past, saying “OBAMA DESTROYS SLAMS LALALLA” without any context or conversation.
