We may need to rethink how we define vulnerability—or maybe, our perception of what it means to be vulnerable.
Vulnerability is not a weakness. It is not the trait of a person who is less than or cowardly. Quite the contrary.
Vulnerability is a strength. It takes courage. It is a person who is willing to take a risk in exposing himself, putting his feelings and emotions on the line, knowing full well that we live in a judgmental society.
That’s a harsh truth, no matter how much we want to believe that it’s different, but a reality because not everyone will receive him with empathy, compassion, and encouragement.
Vulnerability is the key to connection, healing, and establishing trust. Only through the decision to show and share our vulnerability can we truly be present and support others in overcoming their challenges.
If you find yourself judging someone for being vulnerable, remember that what you’re judging, is their strength and their courage.
When you find yourself in that position, ask yourself this.
Why are you judging? Does that person’s vulnerability evoke a feeling of fear within you? Does it make you uncomfortable?
Vulnerability is a critical component in living authentically.
It’s smart to be selective when it comes to opening up; however, power to the people who allow themselves to be vulnerable. They are affording themselves an opportunity to reflect, learn, and grow.
