How to Liberate Ourselves from the Fear of Making the Wrong Decisions.

For a long time, I wasn’t sure how to make decisions that created a feeling of liberation within myself.

In truth, I’ve only recently realized that I can reach a conclusion based upon the argument that it’s what I want.

A few days ago I made the decision to quit my job. I had only been working there for three months, yet I knew in my heart that it wasn’t right for me.

Eventually, I was confronted with two decisions: to stay in my current situation and earn money to live, or to leave with nothing but the knowledge that I would be happier living a life I’m proud of.

Can you guess which option I chose? That’s right, the scarier one.

What is a decision?

By definition, a decision is a conclusion or resolution reached after consideration. For many, the consideration part is usually the hardest. There are so many possibilities to examine and contemplate. Oftentimes, there are so many options that we become overwhelmed and won’t make any decision for fear of choosing the wrong one.

But what even is the wrong decision? How do we know it’s the wrong one if we haven’t even tried the others?

Fear holds us back, and the fear of choosing the wrong thing holds us back from making a choice at all, so why not just go for it? Do what you’re thinking about, instead of wondering.

Our life is all about making choices that bring us freedom, so take control of it.

Try things that will bring you happiness, and if they don’t bring you joy, try something new.

Of course, it’s much easier to say all these things about making choices that bring about freedom. Even I struggle with making choices that bring about freedom some of the time. Truthfully, I’m still learning how to fully embrace my authenticity, but there are ways to remove the inner fear of not living the way we are expected to.

Here’s how to make decisions that liberate us into being our authentic self:

Remove Expectation

Our expectations are the biggest killers of anything enlightening happening for us.

They are also one of the hardest things to overcome. How many times have we chosen to do something because we thought we should? Or because we feared missing out on something?

Even worse, how many times have you not done something that brought you joy because you feared being judged or laughed at? How can we make choices that bring about freedom with all this worry?

Remember, you are your own being. You have a heart and a soul and were created entirely for your own enjoyment.

We were not brought to this universe to fear what we love, nor are we here to shy away from who we truly are, whoever that may be.

Think back to this every time you make a decision that isn’t for yourself. Make decisions that create liberation, and you will create your own happiness and be at peace in every moment.

Having a deep connection with yourself makes it a lot easier to remove expectations.

Put Yourself First

Easier said than done, I know. But be aware that you are here, in this world, for yourself, so do the things you want to do.

If you want to know how to make decisions that create liberation, you need to put your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being above all else.

Your young soul is aspiring to become the most authentic and true versions of yourself, which only happens when you focus on achieving it.

So what choices can you fabricate that make yourself the priority?

What choices will bring about your freedom?

Maybe, like me, it’s quitting a job that doesn’t inspire you. Maybe it’s choosing to journal when you’d rather scroll through social media, or it could be going for a skate even though you’re scared of being mocked for acting like a kid at 19. Put your happiness first, and you’ll always be making decisions that create liberation.

Think of Your Happiness

When learning how to make decisions that create liberation, you must look to what brings you joy. If you’re not thinking of your own pleasure, you’re thinking of someone else’s, and that means you’re holding onto others’ expectations.

Most of you will soon find that rediscovering who you were as a child will bring you the most joy. To be careless, spontaneous, creative, and empathetic: these qualities and many others will forever bring happiness.

So when making choices that bring us freedom, reflect on the things that make you happy. Think of that which makes you cry tears of joy and choose what best aligns with your answers.

Make a Decision Quickly

I was listening to Alexis Fernandez-Preiksa’s first podcast Taking a Leap of Faith and found it very insightful when it came to making choices that bring about freedom for yourself.

For those of you who haven’t heard of her, she is the creator of the podcast “Do You F*cking Mind?” and has some wonderful insights on how to live a life for you.

Nonetheless, she’s highlighted the importance of making all your decisions as quickly as possible. Why? Because it removes the fear of making the wrong decision.

And by removing this worry, you learn how to make decisions that create liberation.

Whenever you have a choice to make a decision, do it in as little time as you can—don’t spend a week wondering what to do. Make the choice, stick with it for a while, and if it doesn’t work out, move on to something else.

I guarantee the choices you make quickly will always be the choices that bring about freedom.

Focus on Who You Want to Become

Who do you want to be and why?

To learn how to make decisions that create liberation for yourself, you must first learn about who you are as an individual. Learn about what you love, what brings you joy, and the things that will forever make your soul burst with happiness.

Remember that who you want to become will forever be evolving as you flourish and grow. So don’t think too deeply or put too much pressure on who you wish to be.

Think more about the values you wish to evoke, the way you wish to treat the loved ones in your life, and the aura you wish to emanate into the universe.

When finding out who you want to be, you must heal from your past.

Did you know there are five natural wonders that can help you rediscover your passions and release your authenticity?

Liberation and Peace

When you consistently make choices that bring about freedom, you are letting love and peace into your heart.

Liberating yourself through the choices you make is hard to do, yet so rewarding.

Put yourself first, do the things you’ve been dreaming of doing, and go live the life you need to be living.
