If I ask you to think of 10 things that are “not good” about you, I’m reasonably sure that you’ll come up with those and more fairly quickly.

If I ask you to talk about how others aren’t treating you right or make you feel “not-so-good about yourself,” chances are that you’ll unload your entire life’s baggage in just a few moments.

And if I ask you about what makes you stand out from those around you, you might go blank. Some of us may be graceful enough to say:

I don’t really have anything worth talking about.

Others are so much better off than me.

Someone else is more talented or successful than me!

It’s so easy to look at, acknowledge, and be in awe of what somebody else is doing. Yet, when it comes to acknowledging our own selves, we are quick to:

>> Judge ourselves

>> Criticize

>> Find faults

>> Overlook our contributions

>> Discount our own talents, abilities, good deeds

>> Fail to acknowledge our strengths

>> Run after validation from others

Thus, keeping ourselves in a self-created pit of self-misery, which only breeds more misery.

It leads to:

>> Discontent with self and others

>> Disconnection with our values, talents, abilities, and vision

>> It takes away our ability to experience the joy of our own being

>> It makes us wonder if our life has any meaning

But, who’s going to provide that meaning?

Who’s going to create that vision?

Who’s going to drop the baggage and move ahead?

Who’s going to take that leap of faith on our behalf?

No one.

Imagine if Superman spent all his time comparing his powers to Aquaman’s, or Wonder Woman spent all her time cribbing about how she can’t fly (which she eventually did!)?

What if Iron Man got scared and went into hiding the minute Thor showed up, and Captain America never considered himself worthy enough to lift Thor’s hammer? (Yes, I am a Superhero movie buff!)

What if I told you that I have a superpower that helps me to stay connected to who I am and who I want to be?

What if I told you that you also have a superpower that can help you (and maybe is helping you) to stay connected to who you are and who you want to be?

“No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else.” ~ P.T. Barnum

Are you willing to let the world—its opinions and judgements—go to hell and go look for your superpower?

Are you willing to dive deep into yourself and bring out that superpower that helps you be you?

I’ll tell you mine: hard work and the willingness to learn. They make me—me. They make me persist. They make me explore, search, question, find, and work toward what I would want to incorporate in my life. Those are my superpowers!

What’s yours?

What makes you—you?

Damn, the world!

What’s your superpower? Find it.

And once you find it, what will you do with it?

Destroy it by comparing it to others, or integrate it and let it expand within?

What will you do?
