Let Me Be Your Love

I loved your copy of Walt Whitman’s “Leaves Of Grass” long before I loved you.

The poet’s words would come to pass in stillness and still, there was love. Still there was you- Love!

Pages written, songs sung and a slow guitar strum. All for love.

Sadly, I know how Rumi felt after his beloved Shams left the hole is like no other.

Then there was Emily and Jane oh, life hasn’t been the same. The poetic lines, the gentle Frost. The letters left in books and postcards home. Picture and movie screens reminding of love lost –   these we watched!

Still there was you.

Touched where no man can ever touch.

In stillness

This heart awakened and spirits elevated and crashed like mighty waves upon a shore.

Oh sweet one-

Where did love go?

Oh yes, even caged birds fly.

Now I recall the order of events

Where has love flown? To another distant sky?

Quick this heart and breath I weaken.

Let me remember love.

Send love on wings and a prayer.

Let me remember love at the end of days and the sweet caress and gentle stare into a soul awakened.

Let me be your love

Love shall linger here between the lines of sweet poetry.
