PTSD: No, you might NOT “be all right.”

Today, in an effort to comfort, I said this to someone with PTSD:

“You’re going to be all right.”

But when those words reached my OWN ears, a surprising response came from deep within myself.

No.
You might NOT be all right.

Truth is, you may never get the apology that is due. You may never get the resolve or get justice or even understand why something happened. You may do quiet battles with your own triggers, indefinitely.

Hopefully, we can be the people that we CHOOSE to be – more days than not.
Hopefully, we have more days in the PRESENT than in the past.
Hopefully, some good music drowns out old video loops and we dance.

Hopefully, the sun shines on our faces and over time, illuminates the rabbit holes inside so that we don’t fall into them as often.

For all of you that carry unseen burdens, I wish you more good days than bad, because the truth is that you may never actually BE all right… and that’s okay. You are not alone.
