Surrendering to Fate. {Poem}

A light at the end of the tunnel drawing nearer and nearer,

A vision of love in my mind becoming clearer and clearer.

Years of digging through darkness, surely you were my escape.

All this emptiness inside me, maybe it would finally go away.

 

But at this exit, in your eyes, I discovered not some holy light,

Rather, a prism scattering what was already inside.

Colors bursting through the world around me,

An explosion of ecstasy with all that surrounded me.

 

But as this new lens began to clear up my view,

A puzzle thought solved and a destiny found true,

I realized that this finished portrait I was hoping to find

Was merely a wishful fantasy in my mind.

 

In front of me still were all these jagged pieces,

Tasty illusions turning into bittersweet releases.

Former perceptions of identity becoming shattered,

A cake once so enticing melting back into batter.

 

With an existence I thought I knew crumbling to the ground,

An ivory tower built so high quickly crashing down,

I realized this was my time to rebuild, a chance to start new,

Like a freshly planted tree slowly branching through.

 

Old demons resurfacing and cold nights to survive,

But with a raw sense of passion, a yearning for life,

As I learned it was not simply your love I was after all this time.

You were a reflection to truth within, emotions long denied.

 

A rainbow after the flood,

Red wine now fresh water in my blood.

A puzzle not just with one solution, but a reality which I create,

Choosing to love unconditionally and surrendering the rest to fate…
