Make [Awkward Sexual Advances] Not War

Person of the Day.

Points for honesty! As seen outside of Chipotle in Boulder, Colorado.

It was the hippie protest anthem: Make Love Not War.

Arms are for Hugging was in the same vein. Forty years on, the sentiment is as true today, if not moreso, as it was back in the 60s.

I was sitting outside Chipotle last weekend, having a mindfully-sourced lunch with business advisor Cameron Burgess. This chap and I have worked together on some talk shows, we’re acquaintances but not buddies, and I stupidly lost his business card. What’s his name, help me Boulder locals!?

Only Boulder men would think that awkward sexual advances are cool…go figure.

  2. Never having been to Boulder, I have to admit I'm having trouble figuring this blog and Anna's comment out. I'm sure there are a lot of great Boulder insider jokes behind it all!

I'm not even asking for an explanation, for, as Jay Leno is always admonishing Kevin, "If you have to explain it…..".

Bob… Allow me to explain. No matter the age, the male/female dynamic in Boulder is a joke. It tends to be somewhat of a perpetual sixth grade dance. Boys on one side; girls on the other. Girls giggle and flaunt their athleta bodies and boys wear dumb-ass t-shirts that they think are funny, such as: Make Awkward Sexual Advances not War.
The suggestion is petty, surface and stupid. After living here (and loving it) for years, I feel I can poke fun at this meathead prospective.

  7. Thanks, Anna. I think it's hilarious that there's a stereotype "no matter what the age".

    Bob

  8. Funny, I thought he (and anyone wearing that shirt) was just making fun of themselves. You know, humor.

  9. Anna says:

Of course I know humor silly… .Unfortunately, that t-shirt is not.

  10. lisa says:

have a laugh girl. glad i dont take life so serious…must get boring… i thought it was funny for the record

  11. Anna says:

Now thats funny… How we project our own shtuff to interpret the written word. You have no idea who i am to make that judgement… Right back a' tcha babe!

  12. Tali says:

It's just a T-Shirt and I think it's funny. Not rolling on the floor laughing funny, but still. There are definitely some interesting style trends in Boulder but I try not to judge. Part of that whole yoga thing…

  13. I think it's funny in that it makes fun of modern romance. It's making fun of the wearer. It's Seinfeld-esque humor, that's all.

  14. Angie says:

wow. boulder must be so small if people are drawing lines in the sand, boys against girls??? I agree, the wearer is poking fun at himself. I like that. Just because someone wears a funny shirt though doesn't mean they are shallow, probably quite the opposite, they are not afraid to be silly and enjoy life!

  15. Greg says:

Shows how the times have changed for the worse. When I lived in Boulder – back in the Stone Ages – we did not wear T-shirts. That's how fast things go down hill. :>)
