How does one get an asana junkie like me to become interested in developing a pranayama practice—or even better, maintain one?
I admit, I’d always been intrigued. But in Ashtanga, it can seem like an invitation-only party where only the cool, upperclassmen were let in.
Well, I’m proud to report—I think I might just be one of the cool kids now.
Over the past six months, I’ve spent a some time studying with certified teacher, David Garrigues—my most recent jaunt was last week for a five-day intensive training. His enthusiasm and zest for all things Ashtanga makes everything about this practice come to life—especially the breath, which according to him, is the most important aspect.
So I asked David to sit down with me one afternoon to discuss Ashtanga’s fourth limb and to introduce his newest DVD/Book set: A guide to pranayama, Ashtanga Yoga’s Fourth Limb. Despite having just taught for nearly eight hours and no break—he just can’t resist sharing what he loves in typical DG animated fashion.
