I’m not yours to own.

I’m not your arm candy to show off to your friends.
I’m not your maid to clean your house.
I’m not your roommate to pay the bills.
I’m not your sex doll to bend over and f*ck
Every which way you want.

I’m not the girl to bring home to your parents
If all you want is the image of a perfect family.
I’m not a woman who can be conned with lies
And made to believe that all that glitters is gold.
I’m not the naive little girl I was a few years ago,
That if you said “jump” I’d say “how high?”

I’m not the woman who will uproot her life ever again for a man.
I’m not the woman who will be let down again and again.
I’m not the woman who will sit alone waiting for you to come home
While you’re off gallivanting—
“When the cats away the mice will play.”

I’m not the woman who will spill her heart to receive nothing in return.
I’m not the woman who will give up her hopes, values and dreams
To have them discarded, forgotten and crushed.
I’m not the woman who will wait a lifetime for a man to show up
And truly live in the moment with me.

It’s all or nothing,
Here and now.

I’m not the woman who needs a man to hang my pictures,
pay my bills,
Or fix my toilet.

I also don’t need a man
To whisper sweet nothing’s,
And hold me tight.

I’m the only one
Who can put me to sleep at night.

I’m not a woman who needs a fairy tale ending,
Or to be wined and dined—
That stuff’s for simple people who will never know how to truly live.

I’m not yours to own.

Dig a little deeper to see how I’m sewn.

I promise you,
What lies within my weave is strong,
And I’m not some woman to be pulled along.

My head is strong.
My skin is thick.
My heart is full,
And my legs are quick.

If you really try you might be able to catch my heart,
But it will never be tied down
Because I’m not yours to own.
