Palm trees, beautiful beaches, coconuts, and a plethora of magical places to practice yoga: Thailand is (quite rightly) considered a paradise by anyone lucky enough to travel or live there.

However, not all is rosy in the Land of Smiles.

Whilst lifestyle and living conditions for us humans remain some of the finest in the world, the same cannot be said for the welfare of Thailand’s animal population.

There are an estimated 30,000 stray dogs on Phuket Island alone, and an even greater number of stray cats. Suffering from blistering heat and a complete lack of food and clean water, life on the Thai streets is a living hell for these poor fur babies. In addition, each year tens of thousands of stray animals (and even family pets) are stolen, rounded-up, and inhumanely shipped to neighbouring countries such as Vietnam and China to be butchered for their meat.

Needless to say, being a stray animal in Thailand is far from fun.

Bohemian Island is a small company based in Phuket. We donate 10% of each sale of our harem yoga pants to the Soi Dog Foundation, a wonderful charity based in the north of Phuket Island who dedicate their time to improving the welfare of animal communities. Providing medical care, homing and re-homing assistance to thousands of desperately needy animals each month, Soi Dog does miraculous and much needed work in an area that has long suffered from a high stray animal population.
