What Life is Like when You’re Able to Talk to the Dead.

Do you ever wonder what an actual psychic medium is really like?

Not who they portray themselves to be in the media or who you might see in an office, but what they’re really like day-to-day.

I have a secret for you: we don’t actually float around on a cloud all day or spend our free time riding unicorns. We’re just normal people like yourself.

When I meet people and tell them that I am a psychic medium, they have all sorts of pre-conceived impressions of what I actually do, and sometimes they seem a little bit scared or put off. Don’t worry; I’m not going to put a hex on you. That’s not something that I do.

Stereotypes like these could come from movies, friends, or social media, but—sorry to disappoint you—I’m not magical. I don’t fly and I don’t spend my day babbling incoherently.

What I have done is put considerable time and effort into honing my gift of connecting with spiritual energy. From the outside, it may look magical, but it’s not. It takes hard work, training, and—ultimately—trust that the universe will bring me the information that I need to help my clients at the right time. After all, the reason I do this work is to help others.

How did I get into this?

This is a question that I get asked often. My response always is that I was born this way. To me, seeing spirits and talking to angels was a normal part of growing up. Think about it; as a kid, you don’t know any better and for me, that was my experience.

But for people who are interested in this work, I do believe it can be developed. Just imagine you wanted to be a professional bodybuilder. You would eat right, go to the gym all the time, cut your carbs, etc. Basically, you would do everything that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson does. It’s the same thing with mediumship (minus the exercise).

Everyone is born with an innate sixth sense and the ability to connect to Spirit.

If you wanted to do this work you would need to put some effort into it. Even those more naturally suited to this line of work have to develop their gift.

All the mediums I know are constantly working to better their craft. Just like an elite athlete or a great actor, most of us continually try to do our best work. And this “best work” is always evolving

I don’t see dead people…all the time.

When people meet me and find out what I do, a lot of them assume that I have spirits whizzing around my head 24 hours a day.

Now, I can’t speak for all mediums, but that’s not how it works for me.

Personally, when I’m working I intentionally tune into Spirit, and then I maintain that link. When I’m done, I pretty much shut everything off. It’s like clocking in and out of work. It doesn’t mean that other times I don’t have my intuitive spidey senses on; it’s just that I’m not actively trying to focus on Spirit.

Especially in social situations as soon as someone learns I’m a medium, the barrage of questions usually starts. I’ve even had the UPS man ask me on my doorstep if I saw any spirits around him. I looked at him blankly and said, “Uh no, but I’d be happy to make an appointment for you.”

People need to understand that psychics and mediums aren’t always “on” or working 24 hours a day.

I want people to realize that mediums don’t know all the answers to everything. We’re human.

While some mediums do see Spirit in physical form like bodies walking around, it isn’t like that for me. Instead, I see Spirit almost like a movie in my peripheral vision. I see Spirit clairvoyantly, with my third eye, meaning that I don’t usually see them with my physical eyes but I see them energetically.

Spirits present themselves to me as they were in life, and they show me objects or symbols that have meaning to them. There have been a few occasions where I have seen actual Spirits walking around as if an apparition, but that is more unusual for me.

So, where’s the magic?

The “magic” part of my work that most people probably have a hard time understanding is that when I sit with a client, I create space within my energy field to allow their loved one to drop in.

Say what?

After someone dies, they are not dead. Their physical body may no longer be here, but their spirit or soul or Godself is still here. This is what I connect to. We are all Spirit whether we are incarnate (in the body) or discarnate (out of the body).

So, it’s as simple (and also as complex) as that. I’m a spiritual space-holder that other spirits can tap into to help send messages to their incarnate loves ones.

My real superpower is being your typical human.

Sometimes people assume that I must have everything figured out since I’m able to talk to Spirit. That is not true. I am still human and I struggle with all the doubts, difficulties, and challenges that you do. Trust me.

Aside from my atypical daily encounters, I spend most of my time being pretty darn standard. I cook dinners, pick up my kids from school, and deal with regular life problems.

My hope here is to help people understand who mediums are and what it’s like to be in our shoes.

Please don’t be weirded out by us if you meet us in person.

I love what I do and feel privileged to be in communion with the spirit world and to bring healing to my clients. I also like just saying hello to fellow humans in the grocery store—when I’m not riding my unicorn, of course.
