*Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, is one of the oldest sciences on the planet and considered a relative of astronomy. It is an important and valuable part of the ancient Vedic texts. This complex, logic-based and also intuitive science, has survived thousands of years in India’s Vedic tradition and is still considered a highly valuable tool of guidance and life insight. It is not a religion, but rather a philosophical understanding of human and cosmic existence. In Sanskrit, jyoti means light. Essentially, the study of jyotish is the study of light and how we interact with the cosmic light—within us and within the cosmos. Vedic astrology, or the sidereal approach to astrology, casts charts differently than Western, or Tropical astrology. The meanings, implications and purpose of jyotish is therefore different, as are the details used for prediction and the indications given below.

An unusual dance of Jupiter began on November 19th, 2020.

As he shifts into his debilitation sign, Capricorn, he joins Saturn here. Jupiter transits usually last about one year, but his dance will be a bit of a slide forward and backward in the months to come. This movement provides a chance to retrace your steps and do some necessary clean up that may have been missed along the way.

Saturn is content in his own sign of Capricorn, while Jupiter feels too constricted here. Saturn feels balance and Jupiter feels restraint, yet the two planets actually can provide balance and harmony when they collide. In fact, Jupiter’s expansion and Saturn’s contraction, create alignment with both inner and outer realms.

What does balance and harmony feel like in your body? In your life?

Saturn is the planet of grief and effort. He can squeeze and cause pressure to Jupiter’s expansive ways. A debilitated planet can’t offer much outer support as its energy turns inward. This transit can cause challenges with all things Jupiter—so be mindful of what needs are surfacing and what changes and adjustments need to be made on your dharmic path.

Jupiter in his sign of debilitation will turn him deeply within, which is not great for worldly, external pursuits. No debilitated planet loves being seen, expressive, bold, or visible because they can only express themselves at zero percent capacity. The energy is vulnerable, weak, and invisible at times. Yet it can awaken the inner realms in potent, magical ways.

I find debilitated planets to be very spiritual as a result—if we are willing to take a deep dive into our depths. They ask us to move closer to our vulnerabilities, insecurities, and in many ways, our shadows. How can that be a bad thing?

Capricorn is a hard working sign of effort. Hence, ruling planet and blue collar worker, Saturn, feeling comfortable here. Jupiter, however, has more of a royal expression. He wants ease, comfort, grace, and doesn’t do well with hard work or effort—unless it involves knowledge and wisdom.

Are you resisting your visibility in some way? Do you notice yourself holding back or hiding?

Challenges with this Transit

The mistake that many people will make in this transit is resisting necessary support and guidance. You might also make poor choices with guidance and support, so be mindful that the resources you use check out. Be cautious of fraudulent behavior or people who misrepresent themselves. Don’t push away support that has been helpful, just because you think, “I can do it alone.”

Debilitated Jupiter often causes people to derail their progress or move into patterns of adharma because they are not listening to their inner wisdom or facing their fear fully. Poor judgement and missed opportunities are likely in this transit if you are not honoring your body, its needs, and your dharmic path.

You will need a solid team of support in place for this transit. This is nonnegotiable! Wherever you lack proper holding and guidance, or you are missing support, the hole will become more obvious at this time. More support is better in this cycle, not less.

Be careful of falling into old sabotaging behaviors or getting lazy. Debilitated Jupiter can’t offer much support, so it will require diligence with your dharma, your inner wisdom, and the guidance that you offer others. If you are a teacher, wisdom worker, or someone who shares knowledge and wisdom as your purpose, this transit will require extra resilience, focus, restructuring, and intention. You may lose sight of your goals, desires, clarity, or focus. You may feel disheartened, burned out, overburdened. All the more reason to have the right people around you to help you remember your strengths, direction, and truth.

Jupiter will be vulnerable and weak in this transit for many. Get extra rest, attend to your inner needs, and listen carefully to your body wisdom. Make meditation, time in nature, and simplicity a top priority. If you are willing to dive deeply, you will find some potent wisdom within. Resisting your inner wisdom and deepest needs, however, will cause unnecessary suffering and grief.

Look to see where Capricorn lives in your jyotish chart.

The theme of this house will provide you with more insight about this transit. This house theme will show you what areas of your life will need extra support and where your vulnerabilities may feel more visible and challenging. Seek balance in this area of your life and body. Listen carefully to this body part.

The Nature of Jupiter

Jupiter is a planet of sattva, purity. His intention is to purify what is impure and to awaken pure knowledge. He prefers the spiritual realms and offers spiritual support and guidance when well placed in the natal chart. When we go against him, he can be overpowering in his attempts to bring us back to spiritual harmony and balance. When strong, he brings us pure knowledge, wisdom, and support. When he is weak, he disrupts our ability to receive wisdom, support, and proper guidance—which can have dire impact on your dharmic path.

As the planet of expansion, satwa (purity), and akasha (space), Jupiter brings us knowledge and wisdom as well as new awareness. The Sanskrit name for Jupiter is guru (teacher), expressing the support and nourishment he provides. As Jupiter moves around the zodiac, he sparks learning and growth through wisdom, guidance, support, and resources. Whatever he touches, he expands—which may feel helpful or uncomfortable at times.

Jupiter transits are roughly one year long and impact all levels of wisdom, knowledge, comfort, and support. He leads you to your dharmic path and supports the nourishment gained along the way. Positive effects of Jupiter bring comfort, support, and understanding. He brings learning through greater awareness and expansion of consciousness—which, of course, is not always comfortable. He is the ultimate teacher (for better or worse) providing some of the most poignant life lessons.

Challenges with Jupiter include lack of support, knowledge, and dharma. When Jupiter is not strong in the chart, there may be little to no support offered, few resources, or missed opportunities. Dharma may be impossible to find with a weak or challenging Jupiter in the natal chart. Everyone can benefit from the helpful and supportive resources that Jupiter provides. However, without his support, challenges and struggles increase—which often bring tragedy, trauma, and chaos.

As the guru, he represents teachers of all sorts—including coaches, healers, guides, mentors, therapists, wisdom keepers, and shaman. Receiving the blessings of Jupiter requires that you allow the nourishment and wisdom of this type of support to be received. Negative influences upon Jupiter in the jyotish chart will create challenging experiences with teachers and a resistance to knowledge and wisdom. Whereas positive influences upon Jupiter in the jyotish chart will offer nourishing and supportive experiences with teachers, wisdom, and guides.

If Jupiter is a naturally benefic (or positive planet) in your chart, the coming transit may be offset slightly. Jupiter loves dharma, right action, spiritual gifts, and wisdom. He is a great support for aligning and clarifying your dharmic path. Using this time wisely will be important for making progress on your path and getting soul level support.

If Jupiter is not a positive resource for you, this transit can offer certain challenges with knowledge, wisdom, guidance, and support—especially for your dharmic path. You may lose support, be forced to restructure, face hardships, and lack of resources. The impact of a weak Jupiter will mostly be felt as he moves through Capricorn and will improve with his entry into Aquarius. Notice what comes to light and take action. For everyone, a Jupiter yagya is strongly recommended for this transit to buffer the vulnerabilities.

Do you have the right kind of support right now? Do you have enough support right now? Do you have both spiritual and material support on your team? What feels like it’s missing?
