Reason, Season, or Lifetime: A Therapist’s Seasonal Gift.

If there’s one thing wonderful that has happened to me this year, it’s having had the opportunity to work with what is likely one of the best trauma therapists in the United States.

I know everyone says their therapist is amazing, but mine truly is.

She picks me up each session, talks lovingly to all my younger selves, and then wraps us up gently in what feels like a golden blanket of warmth before setting us back down.

She always holds a container for us and seals it with love and care, as if she’s tucking the hair behind the ears of the little girl inside me and saying she won’t drop her.

To be honest, there is nobody I’ve ever worked with who has made me feel so safe.

Because of her, my heart is once again beating, and I can finally tell my story and cry.

While my therapy journey should have never been as traumatizing as it has been, I feel that this new therapist came into my life exactly when I needed her to.

I’ve heard the saying that people come for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.

She likely won’t be here forever, but she is willing to go as slowly as I need, for as long as I need, to experience the beauty of her seasonal work.

I am in no hurry for anything to change.

For now, the kids inside me just want to bask in her warmth, giggle, and play.

As we giggled today, she giggled back, and I felt joy in knowing she was present with me— will all of me, both the little ones and us adults.

I know finding the right therapist can be challenging. We all want that special connection. Just like a partner though, I think it can be hard to find. It’s easy to settle when therapy feels okay, but trust me when I say that when you truly connect with a therapist, it’s much more than okay. It’s magical.
