These Words got me Through a Soul-Crushing Relationship.
Inside me lives a league of furies.
At all times, insatiable.
Indiscreet.
But I will not apologize
Because I am tired
Of repentance,
Of asking for forgiveness
For feeling.
For being who I am.
And I am sick
Sick,
Sick,
Of watching us consolidate our magic into hats,
Hoping for someone to stick around
As the ever-turning wheel folds our skin,
As the heated words on our tongues beg and rage, wanting to be heard,
As we brush along the surface,
As we drop our souls into people who are small ponds
And cross our fingers, hoping they deem us worthy.
Yes, I am done tracing the edges of that box.
