The 1% for the Planet ad that Patagonia killed because SIGG misled us all.
Patagonia tried to pull this 1% for the Planet ad after learning that SIGG had directly misled them (and the American public), though Patagonia had done due diligence to ascertain that SIGG didn’t contain BPA, a toxic substance…but the magazine was already at press.
We’ve covered SIGG’s toxic naughtiness here, in an article via leading eco star Simran Sethi, and we were one of the first, if not the first (via twitter) to break the news that Patagonia was making the bold stand of immediately dissolving their new partnership with SIGG.
Note: SIGGs made since August 2008 are indeed BPA-free. Ones before that time are find if not dented—Treehugger examined the bottles at the time and found that SIGGs indeed showed zero trace of BPA. But once they’re dented, or worn…bad news.
Looking to return your Patagonia SIGG bottle? Patagonia is offering full refund here and more background on the story, at their The Cleanest Line.
Note: the below photos of the AD THAT SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN are offered simply because they’re interesting, and we love 1% for the Planet, and we love Yvon, and figure some good exposure, something good, oughta come out of all this. The partnership is dissolved, and Patagonia—while it was misled and didn’t breakt he bottles up in a lab and test them—did do more diligence than should be required to make sure SIGG was walking it’s ECO LOGICAL talk.
