Via Pema Chodron:
“…There is this fundamental restlessness. It can be everything from wanting to fill up the space… and when you’re not sitting, this is happening all the time.Trungpa Rinpoche used to praise boredom in sitting. He said that you have to sit to the point where you’re just bored. You’ve worn out all the entertainment value and you’re just bored. And you have to go through the restlessness of boredom. Because boredom is just another word for this fundamental restlessness–it’s hot, you want to get out of there. And he said you have to sit through with as much loving kindness towards yourself and compassion, relaxation, anything that enables you to kindly and gently and continually stay present. Learning to stay with the boredom. Until, at some point, it shifts to what he called cool boredom, which is that it doesn’t make you want to jump up anymore or fill up the space. We fill up the space by working, by eating, by addictions of all kinds, by all kinds of activities. And if you don’t believe me, just start paying attention to this tonight when you leave, or even sitting here, or tomorrow during your day, or for every day for the rest of your life. You will notice just a few examples now and then. [Laughter] Then with your speech, it’s the same thing. Yackity, yackity, yack. Filling up the space. How often have you finally gotten some time in your day to have a little peace of mind (you might say, Well, that never happens, but…), but how often has that happened when it stretched a little longer than was comfortable and you made a phone call? You just, somehow, wanted to not be there with that fundamental restlessness. So you make a phone call. Or, how often are you with somebody and they’re not talking very much, and then you just start talking more and more and more and more and more. Like silence becomes very threatening and awkward, and you begin to feel every hair on your head and you begin to feel where arms are and everything’s itching, suddenly you’re scratching all over, and wiggling and moving…” …read the rest, here.

Thanks for the interesting video and tips – I found several things that I currently do (like the gluten free food) and did not know that they were bad for me… – time to change habbits..

The article regarding gluten-free being bad for us is terribly misleading! Eating ANY kind of processed carbohydrates are bad for us. Obviously, just because a cupcake is gluten-free doesn't make it good for you! Cupcakes are not good for anyone. The issue with people going 'gluten-free' and thinking it's good for them is because people replace pizza with gluten-free pizza or bread with GF bread. The emphasis should always be on eating whole fruits and vegetables. If you're going GF because of the weight-loss fad, you're going to fail unless you replace the sandwich with a salad. Not a GF sandwich. Wheat, even whole wheat, is almost certainly a GMO food. 1 out of every 6 people is allergic to gluten, most likely because of the GMO factor. Saying 'gluten-free is bad for 99% of us' is terrible misinformation. I think a more accurate title for your article would have been 'gluten-free is not the key to weight loss' or 'gluten-free items may have more carbs than non gluten-free items'. 'GF is bad for 99% of us' is just a blatently false claim.

Waylon! I don't think I've ever seen you smile in any of your videos! In this one you talked for a whole 9 minutes and only smiled when you had to show a fake smile! I just can't imagine talking for so long and not have the need to smile! Other than that, I loved the tips, thanks! :)

Wow, have you seen my conversations with guests? I joke and smile constantly. Try me! You'll be sick of all the jokes! You'll be begging me to get more serious!

Haha ok, I believe you, now that I re-read the comment it just sounds mean, I think I might have been in a really bad mood at the time! Keep up the good work!

Did you ever watch Ren and Stimpy? Their "happy, happy, Joy, Joy" song always appears in my mind when I see people (or am in a situation where everyone is) practicing #10…and politely excuse myself.

I always get my incense from Nepal – from a nunnery that makes it from herbs…It produces smoke but noticeably different than commercially available incense. Plus it's good to clear the air sometimes.
