5 Tried & True Self-Care Rituals for Mamas.

I know firsthand the importance of regularly finding pockets of time for self-care.

Before becoming a mama, I was pretty on top of my self-care game—but I soon learned that I had a lot less time and energy once my little one joined the party.

I’ll share a few things I’ve learned to integrate religiously that have helped me to show up as a better mom (and wife, friend, coworker, teacher) by taking care of myself regularly.

1. Move that Beautiful Body

Find time to exercise—whether it’s a 10-minute YouTube video, a walk with your little one, dancing to a few songs, “momma and me” yoga, or time at the gym—try to move your body every day. Don’t discount the power of endorphins.

2. Breathe

Throughout the day, make it a habit to pause and take a few deep, purposeful breaths. Bonus if you recite a few things you are thankful for out loud or in your mind. Cultivating calmness and gratitude takes mere seconds, but the impact is huge.

3. Make a Hot Cuppa

After your little one(s) goes to bed, make yourself a powerful potion. Some of my favorites are herbal tea, hot lemon water, homemade golden milk, and reishi hot chocolate. There is something so soothing and calming about a warm drink—and I’ve learned how much rarer it is to connect with a hot cuppa during the day when working and taking care of a little one. So do yourself a little service and concoct something that soothes and comforts you. It doesn’t have to be elaborate.

4. Commit and Plan

Use a planner and write in (or log on your phone calendar) times for self-care. Whether it’s an at-home facial, a massage, a manicure, a bubble bath, getting acupuncture, meeting up with a friend, setting aside time to read a book, time to create, or seeing a therapist, write it down and make time for things that feed your soul regularly.

5. H2O

This one is basic: drink plenty of water throughout the day. You’ll think more clearly and have more energy and happier skin to boot.

I hope this sparks some practical self-care ideas into your life. Make sure to adjust and tailor this to suit your self-care needs.
