Boris Johnson decided to End the Pandemic—Here’s Why.

Is it because of the Omicron variant? Is it based on science? Or is it something completely else?

Boris Johnson is probably one of the most controversial leaders in the international community. Some referred to him as the European Trump in the past.

But let’s put bad haircuts, weird statements, and criticism against his party aside for a moment. Let’s also forget about the devastating effects of Brexit for a moment. Let’s focus on Boris Johnson.

He is currently under fire because of a party in the back garden of Downing Street. Attending or hosting a party during a national lockdown is already quite questionable, but the real kicker here is his explanation—or, let’s say, attempt to explain.

Apparently, he wasn’t aware that it was a party. He thought it was a work meeting. Which brings me to the question, “What does a typical meeting at Downing Street look like?”

Seriously, if Johnson cannot differentiate between a party and a work meeting, what does that tell us about his way of working?

We all make mistakes. And we have to give him that the vaccination rollout in the United Kingdom was well-organized. If that’s really an achievement of Johnson is another topic itself.

Even if he did a good job on that, it doesn’t excuse any of his other shortcomings.

There is an ongoing investigation, and Johnson had to face criticism in a hearing broadcasted on national television. Needless to say, this hearing didn’t calm things down. It looked as if Johnson was about to resign.

But Johnson wouldn’t be Johnson if he didn’t have a plan to distract the public just a few hours later. He decided to take a drastic step forward. Not because it’s the right thing to do, more because it’s the only thing he was able to do.

So, he went ahead and announced the end of almost all COVID-19 safety protocols: no more masks, no more vaccination cards, and no more home office.

The far-right members of his party were cheering their leader. All of a sudden, Johnson felt like a hero again. Or better said, “He tried to make himself look like a hero.”

Looking at his excuses during the so-called party gate hearing, I have one question, “Is he a liar or just stupid?” But after his announcement to end the pandemic, I have another question, “Does he think we are stupid?”

Isn’t it interesting that the day he was facing one of the biggest sh*tstorms in his career also became the day when the end of the pandemic was announced?

Coincidence? Opportunistic behavior? Or does he really think it’s the right thing to do?

I am not a scientist, but I feel that the situation is pretty much out of control in Europe right now. I don’t see any reason to end mask mandates while cases spike to levels we haven’t seen before. Even if Omicron was half as deadly as the Delta variant, how much does that help if 10-times more people get infected?

Maybe Johnson is literally giving up and feels that the current outbreak can’t be stopped anyways. Maybe he doesn’t know what to do anymore. I don’t blame him for that.

But I have one humble request to Mr. Johnson, “Please stop making this about yourself.”

It’s over. Just resign. Or, as one of your colleagues said, “In the name of God, go!”
